Welcome to the Western Balkan Power Sector Knowledge Hub!

This knowledge hub offers curated materials and information on the power sector in the Western Balkan countries.

This regional project focuses on building competencies and providing up-to-date knowledge on innovative technological solutions for the electricity sector in the Western Balkans. Technological progress is amplified by enhancing the regulatory framework for an increased use of RE. In addition, the project aims to create the basic awareness for the need to establish appropriate education and training opportunities for a RE based energy transition among the relevant organisations. Areas of Intervention

Project Pillar 1:
Solutions for network integration of higher RE shares
  • Grid operators/regulators work out innovative tech-solutions for RE integration
  • Regulators are supported to modernise grid infrastructure incl. diagnostics, forecasts, dispatching, accounting
Project Pillar 2:
Options to improve the regulatory framework for RE
  • Regional exchange of regulators/grid operators to facilitate RES integration/feed-in
  • Identifying options for DSO-level mass integration of RE-generation
Output 3:
Basics for vocational education and training (TVET) for RE
  • Analysing labour market effects of increasing RE-demand, incl. re-qualification with WB TVET organizations
  • Campaigning towards RE-based professions/services and introduction of common quality standards
